May 24th, 6 PM: Let's Talk Literature in a Precarious Publishing Environment

Author and publishing consultant Carol Hoenig will interview authors R.J. Keller and Amy Rogers about their writing lives and how the publishing industry has changed.

About Our Speakers

R.J. Keller is the author of Waiting for Spring, a previously self-published novel that will be re-released by AmazonEncore in May 2011. She co-hosts Book Chatter with Stacey Cochran, an Internet talk show that features interviews with authors and publishing professionals. An avid independent movie enthusiast, Keller was Managing Editor of The Movie Fanatic Website and currently writes, shoots, and edits episodes of the writer-centric YouTube show, Inside The Writers' Studio, with author Kristen Tsetsi. Amy Rogers is an award-winning writer, editor and publisher. She co-founded Novello Festival Press, the independent press that put more than 300 writers into print since its founding in 2000. Rogers is a frequent food and culture commentator for NPR station WFAE, and for its online magazine, WFAEats. Her books include Hungry for Home: Stories of Food from Across the Carolinas. Her work has appeared in Cornbread Nation 1: The Best of Southern Food Writing, design magazine American Bungalow and literary magazine the Oxford American. She is a winner of the President's Award given by the Southeast Library Association to recognize those outside the profession who have done the most for libraries. Carol Hoenig is a multi-award winning author of Without Grace and The Author's Guide to Planning Book Events, and she blogs for The Huffington Post. She is Editorial Director for Worthy Shorts and is a member of the Women's Media Group and International Women's Writing Guild. TRIUMVIRATE: MCKIM MEAD & WHITE ART, ARCHITECTURE, SCANDAL, AND CLASS IN AMERICA’S GILDED AGE

Mosette Broderick, renowned architectural and social historian illustrates the rich, fascinating saga of the most influential architectural firm of American’s Gilded Age. Charles McKim, William Mead, and Stanford White came together bound by the notion that architecture could shape a nation in transition, and, in so doing, elevated the standard on the world’s stage. Professor Broderick’s new book on the subject (Knopf, 2010) will be available for sale and signing at the event.
